Is Welfare Our Largest Export?

In a move that should have happened decades ago, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent (often referred to in the press as the architect of our new "Golden Age" economy) has announced a sweeping new directive that takes effect immediately.
Starting today, if you are receiving federal public assistance, whether it’s Temporary Cash Assistance (TANF), child care subsidies, or other social safety net funds, you are officially barred from wiring that money out of the United States.
In Florida, we understand that every dollar sent overseas is a dollar taken away from a veteran in Panama City or a struggling senior in Tallahassee. We believe in the "America First" principle, which means our safety net is for Americans- full stop.
For years, we’ve watched the radical Left turn the American social safety net into a global ATM. They tell you that public assistance is a "handout for the needy," but the data tells a different story, one where billions of your hard-earned tax dollars are being funneled out of our economy and wired to foreign countries. Today, that exploitation is over.
The logic is simple, though it’s enough to make a liberal’s head spin: If you have enough "extra" money to send to a relative in another country, then you don’t need the American taxpayer to subsidize your lifestyle in this one.
This isn't just about fiscal responsibility; it’s about stopping the blatant fraud that has plagued our welfare system. We’ve seen reports of illicit benefits being funneled to individuals who shouldn't even be on our soil, let alone on our payroll. By cutting off the ability to wire these funds internationally, we are effectively decapitating the financial incentive for the "welfare tourism" that has drained our resources for too long.
This directive is a vital step in Secretary Bessent’s broader mission to "open the books" and usher in a new era of transparency. For too long, the administrative state operated in the shadows, allowing public funds to be used as a tool for global wealth redistribution.
No more.
If you want to live in the greatest state in the greatest country on Earth, you play by our rules. You don't get to take from the American pot and then empty it into a foreign one. We are finally treating our tax dollars with the respect they deserve- as a sacred trust used to support the American worker and the American family.
The Left will undoubtedly call this "xenophobic." Let them. We don't care. While they worry about the feelings of people in other countries, I'm going to worry about the bank accounts of the people in the Florida Panhandle.
Today is a win for the taxpayer. It’s a win for the rule of law. And most importantly, it’s a sign that the adults are finally back in the room, making sure that America’s wealth stays right here where it belongs- in America.
